RMT Goals for myself

My goals in my RMT career December 05th / 2022 I have a lot of things I want to do for my massage career and I wanted to write them all down. So what's a better place than my blog, to share with all of you. 1) Teach something massage related 2) Organise an RMT socialising event 3) Sponsor a kids sports / arts team, yearly 4)  Full time only at my home practice 5) Take part in some kind of RMT event once a year 1) Teach something massage related -   Explained: I would like to teach something to do with massage. I love teaching. When I was more dedicated to art I was teaching adults and children art. It was a ton of fun and it taught myself things as well. I would love to be able to share in the education and knowledge of future RMT's. I know a lot of people jumped from graduating massage school right into teaching. I personally didn't feel like I had enough real world experience though to be teaching yet. I was and still am fresh and new. A greenhorn. In a year or two I

Guest on Podcast 2 Massage Therapists and a Microphone

Image
Guest on Podcast 2 Massage Therapists and a Microphone November 30th / 2022 I have been listening to 2 Massage Therapists and a Microphone for years now.  Let's do a little introduction to the podcast: Amanda and Mark are the hosts of the show ( they are also married ). They are two RMT's as well as kinesiologists that interview soft tissue workers from all over, but mostly North America. They are based here in Toronto, Canada. But with the beautiful internet, they have people on the show from the US and sometimes other parts of the world. They have had the podcast now for about 5 years. They have over 400 podcasts and they are continue to grow every day. They also own ConEd Institute but that is a completely separate business. If you want to know more, you really should just listen to their podcast. I prefer Spotify to listen to them with. I met Mark first in a cupping class that I took at ConEd Institute. I really enjoyed the course and found it to b

Guest Speaker at Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy

Guest Speaker at Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy November 25th / 2022 I was invited to be a guest speaker to students at the Sutherland-Chan school of massage therapy. ( The school I went to ! So exciting ) I have been really looking forward to this for ages. Back when I was first asked. They reached out to me and asked if I could come in for a class and talk to the students. Basically do a lot of Q&A. If you know me, you already know I obviously said yes. If you don't know me, then I will just let you know that I love talking, I love sharing knowledge, I love education, I love massage, I love conversation, I love curiosity, and I love being around people. It was a no brainer. I didn't have to prepare anything. Just bring myself, arrive on time, and ready for back and forth. I was also sharing time with another RMT. I thought it was a perfect match because we were opposites in everything in experience. Me                                        Other RMT Female

Going for massage often?

Going for massages often? October 27th / 2022 Why has it been so long since I went for massage?! I really love getting a massage. I feel it's just me get swept away by working and doing activities and just not making the time to get one. It wasn't until my husband offered to massage my shoulders the other day. He was massaging them for maybe a couple minutes and I wanted to cry. Because it hurt? No. Because it felt so good. He isn't an RMT and yet even his massage felt like it was sent from the gods. Obviously I had to book myself a treatment ASAP. Yesterday I had my first massage in 2 months and it was heaven. I can't lie, there was definitely some tender and sore areas that required a much lighter touch haha. My shoulders really needed some work and some love. But it felt so so good. When I got off the table I felt wobbly. A good wobbly. A " I just got all of my tissue worked on in the best way possible " wobbly. My body just wanted to continue laying on t

New 30 Minute services added

Image
New 30 Minute services added October 20th / 2022 Sometimes we don’t have 60 minutes. Sometimes we just want our neck and head worked on. Or maybe just our feet. So I decided to add a bunch of 30 minute services that you can now book.  They are: - Only head neck massage - Only back massage - Only hands and arms massage - Only feet, shins, calves massage - Only hands and feet massage Every 30 minute massage is $60 + HST.  ( as of October 2022. Prices subject to change in the future ) I am excited to be able to offer these because I have had a few people that they don't have time or necessarily want their whole body worked on, but they really want some relief from their plantar fasciitis and a 30 minute foot, shins, calves massage is just what they need. So feel free to go to my website www.TyleenRMT.com and book an appointment.

Improved massage room

Image
Improved massage room. October 11th / 2022 I have finally opened up the full space in the massage room. The blue hanging curtain is gone ! But no worries, curtain lights stayed. A lot of you told me you liked them so they couldn’t take leave. With the space opened I have moved the sitting and desk area into the new cubby area. In that space I also created an educational wall piece. With this we can talk more in-depth about your treatment and better understand what is being talked about. Muscles, ligaments, bones, tendons, nerves, and more. Another new thing is the chalk board area I painted on the wall with all of my prices listed. Much easier to read and I have the price plus HST added on display for easier convenience.  Mostly I love how much more space the room has and how it feels more open and breathable. I never thought it was claustrophobic or anything but I knew getting the full space of the room was going to be a great thing. I have also added a couple new wooden animals too

Seeing a local Physio ( Mend Physio )

Image
Seeing a local physio in Leslieville. October 4th / 2022 Sometimes my clients need a physio, and sometimes I need a physio. I have asked many people over long periods of time about physio’s that they recommend. If I am going to tell you different physio clinics that you can go to, I am only going to mention the ones I see giving good results. So of the ones people talked about, Mend Physio on Carlaw and Queen had a lot of good feedback. So I made an appointment and it was a really great experience. The physio has so much knowledge and was able to figure out what was causing my issues. Then he was able to help me understand why it was like that and how to make it better. He went over everything with me and helped me do all of the self care properly. He was able to answer all of my questions. He also was nice to work with and had a nice down to earth personality which makes him easier to work with. I also appreciated that the entire appointment we spend working on everything. He doesn’

Can pay with Credit Card online

You can now pay with a credit card on file. October 2nd / 2022 Many of you have been asking for the convenience of being able to pay online for your massages. I now have it available. So you can have your credit card on file and you will no longer need to worry about if your card is with you or not.  I know I hate bringing my wallet with me everywhere so I completely understand. The site I use is very secure and your information will be confidential and not shared with anyone.

I won a Shiatsu course !

Image
I won a free Shiatsu course ! September 25th / 2022 I am very excited to say that I won a free Shiatsu course! I entered a draw at the Canadian Massage Conference and was notified I won.  Shiatsu originates from Japan. It uses a lot of eastern medical theory and has different techniques to apply pressure to areas of the body.  I have been thinking about Shiatsu ever since I first learned about it years ago. I had always been humming and hawing about signing up for a class. No real reason for not taking it other than I was always doing something else. But I am glad that I will finally be taking the leap and diving into it. The two instructors are also RMT’s and they have modified the course to be performed on tables instead of on a mat on the floor like traditional Shiatsu. This is really good because I will be able to incorporate these techniques into my every day regular massage. Classes start in October and end in November. Which means I will be fully finished by December. So excitin

An RMT at the Canadian Massage Conference

Image
An RMT at the Canadian Massage Conference September 24th / 2022 Attended the Canadian Massage Conference in Richmond Hill for the first time ever.  It was amazing. I was so thrilled to be surrounded by so many like minded people. It wasn't just massage therapists from all over Canada, but people who are experts in their fields in all sorts of backgrounds. The entire conference was over flowing with knowledge and education. Everyone was so eager to learn and to share what they know. It's was constant information on the world of physical therapy and it was so awesome.  A bunch of wonderful presenters, demos, hands on learning, and discussions. The hardest part was picking what to do and see because there is overlap of presentations.  Not only that but there was a bunch of booths with massage supplies and different equipment you can use in your practice.  The event had major sponsors, Hand and Stone as well as Massage Addict in attendance. It was run by Massage Therapy Media. Ma
